Dreadnought DLC is finally here!

Space Marine Dreadnought DLC

I spent part of the night trying out the new DLC for Space Marine.  It includes the new Dreadnought Assault mode which is basically fighting over designated areas for points.  Capture points come to mind but Dreadnought Assault is a bit different.  Dreadnought Assault consists of 1 starting point called “The Dreadnought Point” which both teams fight over.  The first team to fill the capture bar is granted the honor of having a dreadnought on the team.  It seems to be completely random when deciding who gets to be the dreadnought.  After one team acquires the dreadnought, designated areas for capture start to pop up one at a time.  Whoever captures the area gets the point.  The game mode goes to 20 points. If the dreadnought dies then the current area for capture deactivates and the fight for “The Dreadnought Point” continues.

Overall I love the game mode.  I have never seen so many assault marines in one game, it was great. Jump packs were flying everywhere coming to the assist the metal giant in the carnage. Protecting the dreadnought to keep it alive as long as possible requires team effort, but don’t think the dreadnought can’t take care of itself.  It has a power claw, a melta gun, and another huge gun with unlimited ammo(with reload) to destroy you with.  It also has a stimpack to regenerate health if needed on top of its normal regeneration.  I doubt anybody will 1v1 a dreadnought anytime soon.  The closest I got was 5 full assault marine combos due to some fancy footwork.  During that time the dreadnought was also getting hit with lazcannon/plasma cannon shots and when I died, it was still at 40% and hadn’t used stimpack yet.  It’s just as brutal and “dreadful” as you would expect it to be.

I fraps’ed some gameplay.  One video of me on the painful end of the Dreadnought, another of me actually playing a Dreadnought.  Unfortunately I don’t have a youtube account and don’t plan on having one anytime soon.  The videos however are available for download.  Feel free to use them for whatever you want.  Something to note is the commentary from my friend Jared.  You’ll know what I mean :)   My voice remains hidden for now.  All videos and screenshots are captured in 5760×1080(Three 27 inch monitors) resolution thanks to AMD’s Eyefinity.
